Frankfurt is world-renowned as metropolis on the Main and great banking city. The important German economic and commercial city has nearly 700,000 inhabitants. This fair trade city with its extravagant skyscrapers is called “Manhattan” by the locals. Frankfurt’s fairs, like the International Book Fair, have an international standing. But the city also offers various theatres and museums as well as a university. Frankfurt’s sights include the picturesque, perfectly restored old city with its timbered houses, cafés and the city hall called “Römer”, one of Frankfurt’s landmarks. The Rhein-Main is Germany’s largest airport and is of international importance.
