Bamberg is a city in the north of the German state of Bavaria. It lies at the mouth of the rivers Regnitz and Main and stretches over 7 hills. The old town is characterised by its well-preserved buildings dating from the 11th to the 19th century, including the Old Town Hall, which is decorated with façade paintings, is located on an island in the Regnitz and can be reached via arched bridges. The Romanesque Bamberg Cathedral, whose construction began in the 11th century, has 4 towers and numerous stone sculptures.
