Madrid, which is home to 3.2 million people, is the vibrant capital of the Kingdom of Spain and is situated in the center of the Spanish heartland Castile. The inhabitants of the city are called Madrilenians and are said to be hardworking people. As the cultural and political center of the country, not only do King Felipe and the Spanish Prime Minister reside here, but it is also home to the national stock exchange and several large museums that have a focus on modern culture and the culture of past centuries. The Plaza de Mayor is the core of social life in Madrid, where locals and visitors meet in the evenings. The city is inextricably linked with the two football clubs Atletico and Real. The latter is considered the club of the Castilian elite, whereas Atletico has traditionally been the club of the working classes. Apart from the Almudena Cathedral, the world-famous art museum Museo del Prado is certainly the city’s landmark. The largest and international airport of the city (Madrid-Barajas) is located about 15 minutes by car north of the city center.
