Fairs and congresses in Johannesburg, Südafrika

Johannesburg is home to almost 4.4 million people. The largest city and metropolitan area of South Africa is the economic-financial epicenter of the country and generates nearly 16% of the GDP. Furthermore, numerous mining companies, banks and trading enterprises are based here. Its economic significance also leads to the fact that the city is politically relevant, which can be seen by numerous governmental and consulate offices. Although Johannesburg does not seem to be the number one tourist destination, there is a great variety of cultural sites in the city, such as the Apartheid Museum, the Market Theatre or the Art Gallery in the city center. Guided tours through Soweto are also recommended, which is the resistance symbol of the Apartheid era. Besides being economically interesting, Johannesburg offers an enriching insight into the South African way of life. The O.R. Tambo International Airport, referred to as ORTIA, is the international hub of the city. It is located approximately 20 kilometers outside of the city and is served by more than 50 airlines including Lufthansa and South African Airlines departing from Frankfurt.
