Fairs and congresses in Helsinki, Finnland

Helsinki with a population of 620,000 is the capital as well as the largest city of Finland. The port is almost as important for international tourist traffic as is the Helsinki Vantaa Airport that is located in the eponymous neighboring town. At the ferry terminal, ships from Estonia, Sweden, Germany and other countries land. The most famous sight and landmark of Helsinki is the cathedral that was consecrated in 1852. In its vicinity, also the main building of the university is situated. The Uspenski Cathedral is one of the largest Russian Orthodox church buildings in Western Europe. The Temppeliaukio church, which is similarly unique, was built into the rocks but gets daylight through a copper roof with 180 windows. The popular local recreation area called Suomenlinna is located on an island and originally was a fortress to defend the city.
